Chapter 4:38-44 Many Are Healed

38 And He arose out of the synagogue, and entered into Simon's house. And Simon's wife's mother was taken with a great fever; and they besought Him for her.
and entered into Simon's house - the house of Simon Peter.
Here is a type of another form of the disease of sin. This time it is a hot and burning fever, and there are many men who have
the fever of pride, or the fever of ambition, and some who have the fever of impetuous lust.

39 And He stood over her, and rebuked the fever; and it left her: and immediately she arose and ministered unto them.
and it left her -immediately; as soon as ever He had touched her hand, and rebuked the fever, and bid it be gone.

40 Now when the sun was setting, all they that had any sick with divers diseases brought them unto Him; and He laid His hands on every one of them, and healed them.
Ah, it is setting with some of you!
Those gray hairs are like the streaks of light upon the horizon
as the sun goes down; but blessed be God, He who heals the spiritually sick in the early morning, by bringing children to Himself, does not cease to work until the sun goes down.

41 And devils also came out of many, crying out, and saying, Thou art Christ the Son of God. And He rebuking them suffered them not to speak: for they knew that He was Christ.
Confessions were extorted from the demoniacs.
They said, Thou art Christ the Son of God, but they said it crying with rage and indignation; it was a confession upon the rack, and therefore was not admitted in evidence
*Christ rebuked them, and did not suffer them to say that they knew Him to be the Christ, that it might appear, beyond all contradiction, that He had obtained a conquest over them,
and not made a compact with them.

42 And when it was day, He departed and went into a desert place: and the people sought Him, and came unto Him, and stayed Him, that He should not depart from them.
and went into a desert place - for the sake of solitude, that He might be retired from company, and have an opportunity of privately praying to God: and the people sought, and came unto Him: they first went to Simon's house, and not finding him there, sought for Him elsewhere: and when they understood where He was, they came to Him, and stayed Him that He should not depart from them; they laid hold on Him, and held Him, and did all they could to persuade Him, to abide with them constantly, and not think of removing from them: though perhaps this was not so much from love to Christ's person and presence, or any regard to his ministry, and the good and welfare of their souls, as on account of the miracles He wrought, and the corporal benefits He bestowed on them.

43 And He said unto them, I must preach the kingdom of God to other cities also: for therefore am I sent.
I must preach the kingdom of God to other cities - To proclaim the kingdom of God was the Messiah's great work; healing the diseases of the people was only an emblematical and secondary work
--a work that was to be the proof of His goodness
--and the demonstration of His authority to preach the Gospel, and open the kingdom of heaven to all believers.

44 And He preached in the synagogues of Galilee.
In the several synagogues that were in different cities and towns throughout all Galilee.
